No Such Thing as Corporate Culture?

The following article claims that’s there’s no such thing as corporate culture: Why Corporate Culture is a Myth.

I’d love to hear what you think, because I was more convinced than ever that it’s real as described by the following attributes listed in the article:

  1. Creation story (like in the Bible)
  2. Creed (as in “this is the Cubs’ year”)
  3. Rituals (banging drums in the sweat lodge)
  4. Icons (dazzling the senses, from coffee to doughnuts)
  5. Sacred words (”grande decaf latte, please”)
  6. Pagans (those who refuse to drink the Kool-Aid)
  7. Fearless Leader (from Buddha to Welch)

Seems like a good descriptor of the elements of a corporate culture, and could make for some interesting comparisons between cultures.

But read the article and tell me what YOU think…

CaribHR.Radio and BusinessSuiteToday

Last year at this time, I was just starting out on my journey in radio — without a clue as to what I was doing.
I often think that I still don’t have a clue, but it appears that out there somewhere people are listening.
CaribHR.Radio, my biweekly program for HR practitioners across the region, has had almost 2000 listeners so far — in about 6 programmes. Click here to link to past shows archived at http://radio.caribhrforum.com

Also, tonight I resume my hosting of BusinessSuiteToday on Bess100FM here in Jamaica — it can be heard online from anywhere in the world from 5-7pm (but my segment starts at 6pm) — click here to tune in on Thursday nights.

For past episodes, visit this link which will take you to the Businessuite page.

It’s been enjoyable so far, but radio does have its scary moments when nothing seems to be working as it should! The technology is more than a little daunting, but when it works, it’s a bit magical.

A morning interview on TVJ

This interview was short and pretty funny — due to the fun attitude of the hosts. During the interview, there was a particularly hilarious, unscripted moment that demonstrated the topic of the day – information overload.

There was a radio interview later that night on the same topic that was also quite interesting, featuring a psychologist, an activist and a journalist… Click on this link at the 2Time website to be taken to my Audios page — look for the interview on Information Overload.

Let me know what you think of the interview!

Video: A Recent Speech at CaribizTech

I recently gave a speech at a conference here in Jamaica, giving the reasons why I am following an unusual approach to selecting a Smartphone. Here is the 33 minute video.
