Is Your Company a Time Glutton?

iStock_000008172668XSmallThere’s recent research from McKinsey and Co showing that executive teams are poor at executing projects, partly because they are weak at managing their time demands.

In other words they overcommit – being much better at managing time than money. The pressure turns companies into time gluttons.

Hiding Behind Email – a Bad Idea

I heard a new term in my training recently – “swarming.” It’s when an employee is inundated by other people, all of whom have been asked by an email sender to help get a timely response.

Why Managers Need to Shut Up and Listen

For this article in the Gleaner, for which I was also interviewed live on TVJ, I did a thought experiment – what would it be like if a company’s employees became millionaires? Is there company good enough to stay?

Here’s the 6 minute video interview I did last week on the morning show.

The original Gleaner article that came out on March 16th can be found here.

Customer Development – As Important to Product Development

I’m reading a book that makes the case that startups need to develop customers at the same time they are developing new products. The two processes need to proceed in parallel, from the very beginning, in order to test the hypothesis that a real customer-need is being addressed.

It’s a great book and I summarized what I was learning in this article in the Gleaner – The Customer May Not Always be Right.

The Importance of a Distraction-Free Environment

When I lead my NewHabits programs, one of the most important conversations surround the layout of office-space to reduce visual, audible and human distractions. It’s one that I tackled in my article in the Gleaner: Wide-Open Offices Bad for Productivity.
